At an early age, Maddie started participating in both gymnastics and cheerleading. Maddie started taking gymnastics classes in preschool. At 7, Maddie was selected as a cheerleader at Children's University and was even selected that summer as best jumper at the Cheer Power summer camp. At 8, Maddie joined the ASI Arlington's gymnastics team and started competing on beam, bars, vault and floor. At age 11, Maddie was selected as an All American Cheerleader by the National Cheerleaders Association and went onto participate in the Orange Bowl preshow.
She continued training and competing in gymnastics through level 6 earning many ribbons and medals. In addition, Maddie trained at Bella Karolyi's summer gymnastics camp for six years. She will always remember his encouraging words of: "You can do it!" Maddie's gymnastics coach Uilani Ishikawa will always be a cherished teacher, role model, confidant and friend for whom she continues to keep in touch with.
Gymnastics is a demanding sport which combines grace, athleticism, strength, flexibility, precision, persistence and many hours of training. "I've learned a lot during my 6 years of competitive gymnastics but one of the most important things I have developed over the years is my love for physical fitness. So don't be surprised if you not only learn how to do a cartwheel in my class, but you also learn the proper way to stretch and do a push up!"
Maddie is a busy teenage who has continued her love for sports in high school and juggles cheerleading, gymnastics, dance, golf, and power lifting while maintaining good grades and a positive attitude. |
